Dearborn, State Officials To Hold 'Be Counted' Online Forum

DEARBORN, MI — City and state officials are gathering Wednesday to inform residents on the importance of being counted in the 2020 Census. Dearborn Mayor John B. O'Reilly Jr., along with Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson will be holding a "Be Counted" digital town hall at 4 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the 2020 Census with residents. The event was originally intended to be a public forum but was moved to a digital medium due to the coronavirus. According to a release issued by the city via social media, the event will address the challenges Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and other communities face and the risk communities that are undercounted during the census face. The forum will also attempt to dispel myths while informing residents of the facts surrounding the census, and to discuss how the funding derived from census counts could benefit the community. The town hall will also touch on why completing the census during the coronavirus outbreak is more important than ever, the release states.
