TOWN OF SMITHTOWN, NY — The number of new coronavirus cases, which causes the disease COVID-19, hit 1,158 in the Town of Smithtown as of Tuesday afternoon. There are now 22,954 confirmed cases in Suffolk County. The county's death toll hit 608 Tuesday, Executive Steve Bellone said. SCHOOLS All state schools will be closed until April 29, as New York's statewide stay-at-home order amid the coronavirus will remain in effect until then, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced in April. The Town of Smithtown Senior Center is closed until further notice, according to the Town of Smithtown website. Residents are asked to refrain from placing bags of leaves and brush on the curbside temporarily, as the Town's workforce has been cut back to accommodate state workforce reductions.
