TOWN OF SMITHTOWN, NY — The number of people with the new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, hit 1,523 in the Town of Smithtown as of Tuesday afternoon. There are now 28,751 confirmed cases in Suffolk County. New York State's stay-at-home order was extended to May 15 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo Thursday. The social distancing measure, which keeps all nonessential workers home and school buildings closed, has helped slow the rate that the virus spreads, Cuomo said. If you are showing symptoms, you can call the hotline to be triaged by a nurse and set up an appointment. Residents can make appointments by calling 1-888-364-3065. SCHOOLS All state schools will be closed until May 15, as Cuomo's stay-at-home extension includes educational facilities. The same goes for non-essential businesses.
