Holser Fire 95% Percent Contained: Ventura County Fire

PIRU, CA — The Holser Fire, which has burned 3,000 acres northeast of Piru, is 95 percent contained, Ventura County Fire Department Brian McGrath announced Friday morning. McGrath said that about 40 firefighters remain on scene cleaning up. The Ventura County Fire website said that firefighters are patrolling the fire edges and searching out hot spots. No structural damage has been reported. The picture was much grimmer on Monday when the blaze broke out in the Holser Canyon area, near Lake Piru. It was reportedly caused by a vehicle fire that spread to surrounding bush around 2 p.m., though the official cause is still being investigated. The fire was mapped at 1,200 acres Monday, but grew overnight to 3,000 acres by Tuesday morning, which 20 percent containment. Battling high temperatures and steep, rocky terrain, three firefighters suffered minor injuries, and were taken to the hospital. McGrath said that they have all recovered. Cooler temperatures around Tuesday allowed the 400 firefighters from Los Angeles and Ventura County to make progress, and the fire was reported as 65 percent contained. The fire was reported Thursday evening as 80 percent contained, with a few smoke spots popping up.
