ST. JAMES, NY — Smithtown Nissan closed after it lost its contract with Nissan, Newsday reported. The dealership, at 535 Middle Country Road, was embroiled in a multi-year disagreement over who owns the franchise, according to Newsday. Nissan North America, Inc.told Smithtown Nissan in a letter that its ownership disputes and insufficient wholesale financing plan violated their dealer sales and service agreement, Newsday reported. It cited "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason for its closure, adding that it would not reopen until further notice. Smithtown Nissan was unavailable for comment via phone.
