Why Attend? The goal of this two-part workshop is that participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of reparations. Steph and Ethan will introduce participants to anti-racist and decolonial terminology and frameworks + define reparations and explore it both broadly and in a Maine context. There will be guided break-out groups for participants to go deeper and ample time for questions. At the end, participants will be sincerely invited to give feedback and share their experience of the workshop. Meet The TrainersSteph Rendall Stephanie works at Bowdoin College in their THRIVE initiative, a program serving first-generation, low-income, students of color. For the new year, she is re-reading the Earthsea Cycle by Ursula K. Le Guin and challenging herself to actually follow recipes. Stephanie grew up in what is now Brunswick, Maine. Ethan HughesEthan has been involved in frontline work to undo racism and build the Beloved Community for three decades. His work ranges from participating in the Indigenous Uprising in Ecuador after the Texaco oil spill to co-founding the Fierce Vulnerability Network (a national grassroots reparations movement that addresses the climate crisis). He is also the cofounder of the Possibility Alliance, a nonprofit education center that has moved over $500,000 to BIPOC lead projects and movements. Recently he applied his non-violent direct-action skills to organize teams which resisted crude oil pipeline construction in Minnesota and Virginia. Currently he’s reading Who Do We Choose To Be by Margret Wheatley and looking for more people to play his current favorite board game, Thunderstone Quest.
