ST. JAMES, NY — Although the traditional Veterans Day parade was canceled this year due to the coronavirus, the Smithtown High School East symphonic band wanted to honor the local heroes in their community on Veterans Day. The band marched around the outside of the St. James Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on Nov. 11. The residents came outdoors to hear the patriotic songs. They also created a sign reading "Thank You Smithtown High School East Symphonic Band." Red, white and blue balloons floated on both sides of the sign, as veterans waved mini American flags.
