Description
An inspiring youth-led march and rally with speakers, music, art, & information! Please join me in building a greener, healthier, fossil fuel-free future. Let’s stop the expansion of fossil fuel production right in our own backyard! The No Drilling Contra Costa Youth March and Rally will take place on Saturday, March 12th, 1-3 PM at the Antioch Community Center. We’ll march 1.2 miles on a trail along Lone Tree Way and then join a rally on the right-hand side of the Antioch Community Center parking lot. The rally will feature speakers, music, art, an informational fair, and a supervised, fenced-in playground for young children. We hope you’ll join us! Bring water, snacks, banners, and signs. Please mask up and wear blue and green. Stay updated on Instagram! @nodrillingcontracosta Research, including a 2021 Stanford study, shows that living within 2.5 miles of oil and gas drilling sites increases rates of childhood asthma, cancer, birth defects, miscarriage, and premature births. Yet, in the fall of 2018 oil drilling restarted here—within a half mile of Dozier-Libbey High School, the Kaiser Antioch Medical Center, and pending senior housing. A new injection well for drilling waste water was just permitted. And a proposal for additional drilling less than 1,000 feet from Brentwood homes is currently before county planners.
