Description

It's time for besties & bikes! Let's celebrate lady pals! Join the Cola Women Cyclist and Blue Bike SC on a ride designed for women of all ages and interests at Earlwood Park. This neighborhood group ride will end with social time and sweet treats in the park. This causal-paced ride will be led by experienced cyclist, Laura Herring, and is perfect for those who are looking to build their street riding confidence! Bring your own bike or grab a Blue Bike SC bike. Blue Bike SC will provide a promo code for all participants. Limited bikes available – First come, first served. Location: Earlewood Park About Laura: Laura got into cycling at NCSU, where getting around by bike was often quicker than using a car. She fell in love with the social side of cycling while living in Durham and has been an avid rider for 17 years now. She began working part-time in bike shops in 2018 and you can find her a few days a week at Outspokin' on Devine St. About Cola Women Cyclists: Last year, while most indoor activities were off the table, cycling was one of the safest options for spending time outdoors together. A group of women with mixed familiarity with cycling found themselves meeting up regularly to pedal a few miles downtown, and usually wound up with a beer stop at the end. They discussed some of the barriers women faced getting into the hobby and decided it would be fun to start a group ride where women of all levels could feel comfortable asking questions and meeting other cyclists without any judgment. They currently lead a "no-drop" ride a few miles monthly, meaning they take the pace of their slowest rider that day and stick together! About Blue Bike SC: Blue Bike SC is the City of Columbia’s premier bike share system and is sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and The COMET. Its mission is to provide equitable access to bike-share that fosters mobility, recreation, and personal wellness. The system is managed by the City of Columbia and Bewegen, who oversees the supply, installation, and ongoing operations. 18 stations have been installed to date reaching the neighborhoods of downtown Columbia and the entertainment districts. The Blue Bike program is a direct result of the Walk Bike Columbia Master Plan and the associated Bike Share Plan initiated by the City of Columbia’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC).
