STONEHAM, MA — The superintendent is working on reconciling a $1.2 million difference between the district's proposed FY23 budget and what the town is expected to be offering. Superintendent John Macero told the School Committee Thursday night he submitted a budget of $33,311,271.22. Macero said "the word on the street" is Town Administrator Dennis Sheehan's budget will fund the schools at $32,100,410. It's not uncommon in public education for school budget requests to come in a bit higher than what it ends up being. Macero said he's working with the principals and special education director to see how to balance the budget ahead of the new fiscal year. He also said on March 3 he'll have a budget proposal for the town's number, which would eventually need to be passed at Town Meeting.
