GREENWICH, CT — State Rep. Harry Arora (R-151) has formed an exploratory committee to consider running for Connecticut State Treasurer. Arora made the announcement on Friday in a news release. "Connecticut needs a fresh and bold financial strategy to reduce our massive debt, to lower taxes, and to spur job growth. In the last decade, there has been little income growth and our population is where it was a decade ago," he said. "While the surplus arising from the federal dollars is temporarily helping, the long-term situation has worsened because of inflation. In the coming weeks, I plan to meet residents across the state and take their views in making a decision." Arora has spent 25 years in the private sector managing investments before pivoting to public service. He was first elected as a State Representative for the General Assembly's 151st District in January of 2020 in a special election. Arora took over for Fred Camillo, who left the post to become First Selectman of Greenwich. Arora is now in his second term and is the ranking member of the Labor Committee in the legislature. Current Treasurer Shawn Wooden, a Democrat, was elected to office in 2018.
