PARAMUS, NJ — Paramus will pay the mayor's son $250,000 to settle several lawsuits connected to his employment as a borough police officer, according to a report.
The Borough Council were unable to agree on the hiring of 10 police officers, including Vincent LaBarbiera, a report by NorthJersey.com said.
Vincent's father Richard is the mayor of Paramus.
The $250,000 was part of an agreement in which LaBarbiera and council member Joseph Vartolone, who opposed his hiring, both agree to drop legal action, the report said. Vartolone and two other Republican council members said they were concerned about nepotism, as NorthJersey.com reported.
Mayor Richard LaBarbiera was the deciding vote in approving the hire of his son and the other officers after 10 months of deadlock.
Patch has reached out to the borough and to Vartolone for comment.
