GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Another former Gwinnett County high-school football player has died this week.
James Doby, a member of Duluth High School's 2019 team, died Wednesday, according to his former coaches.
In addition to being a lineman for the Wildcats, Doby was a thrower on the track and field team.
"Such a great kid," Duluth defensive line coach Chris Fowler said to The Atlanta Journal-Constition. "Character was impeccable, personality friendly and humble, laughter was infectious. Sad for his family and teammates."
Patch and other media outlets initially reported that Doby's death was due to complications from COVID-19. Doby's father said Friday that those reports — based on an online post from a friend — were not accurate and that Doby tested negative for the virus. The original post has since been corrected.

My heart hurts tonight... the world lost a great soul today. You were one of the best persons I've ever had the privilege of knowing and I just cant believe you're gone. I couldn't wait to hug your neck and talk with you again. Rest easy brother. See you on the other side. #Covidsucks pic.twitter.com/DjmieTBi0w— Coach Chris Fowler (@coach_fowler63) July 23, 2020
