JERSEY CITY, NJ — A young man who was found dead on Friday in Jersey City's Lincoln Park has now been identified. The Hudson County Sheriff's Office said the man was a 24-year-old Jersey City resident. His family has been notified of his passing and the death has been determined to not be suspicious, a spokesperson for the office said. "Our hearts break for the family of [the man] who was found in Lincoln Park last week," said Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari. "I again want to reiterate that this death did not occur under suspicious circumstances and that Hudson County parks are extremely safe and secure. All residents can continue to go about their days and take advantage of our parks as they normally would." Out of respect for the family, no further details regarding the man's death will be shared, the office said. On Saturday, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office said that a deceased individual was discovered by a jogger at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The jogger alerted a nearby sheriff's officer on patrol. "The death was investigated by both the Hudson County Sheriff's Office and the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office and it has been ruled as not being suspicious," a spokesperson said Saturday. "The Sheriff's Office is the lead investigative agency for this incident." In March of 2019, a woman's body was pulled out of a lake in that park, located on the city's West Side. A man pleaded guilty to raping and strangling Caroline Cano, 45, who had gone out for a morning jog in the park. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
