OSWEGO, IL — Venue 1012, which officially opened last year in August, has been regionally recognized as Public Works Project of the Year by the Fox Valley Public Works Association. The new entertainment center, located along Orchard Road at 1012 Station Drive, won in the category of structures less than $5 million — Venue 1012 was a $750,000 project, Patch previously reported. As part of the award, the venue was also recognized for its collaborative development process, construction process and community engagement, village officials announced Monday. "We are pleased that Fox Valley APWA saw Venue 1012 as a great accomplishment — we agree," Village President Troy Parlier said in a statement. "From the beginning, we saw a unique opportunity to create a new community space and help reignite development along Orchard Road. Venue 1012 has already seen some big successes, and we are excited for what 2022 will bring." The couple had a goal to bring more arts and entertainment to Oswego, and to see that this would happen, one of the terms for the land required the village to develop a venue for outdoor live performances within three years, Patch reported. The project was privately and publically funded. State grants included one of $100,000 secured by State Rep. Keith Wheeler and another $138,000 grant brought by State Rep. Mark Batinick. Work on Venue 1012 won't stop, though. Officials announced future developments will include an entryway plaza with a donor recognition wall, permanent bathrooms, and other recreation facilities. Looking ahead at the year, officials said a variety of community events will take place at Venue 1012. The space can also be rented for community and private events.
