JOLIET, IL — It took four Shorewood officers to arrest 20-year-old Joliet resident Jesus Rosales on Sunday night on felony gun charges after police say Rosales refused to obey commands from officers, running toward a nearby shopping center to avoid capture. Rosales was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer. Rosales lives in the 400 block of Joliet's Pheasant Run Road, which is in the Preston Heights area. Shorewood's Deputy Police Chief Jason Barten said that officers were called to the Speedway gas station on the south end of Route 59 and Black Road because a man with a gun entered the gas station. When officers pulled into the parking lot, they tried to speak with Rosales, and he took off running, heading east toward the Hammel Woods area, Barten said. Rosales dropped his gun while he was trying to run away from Shorewood police, but the gun was later collected as evidence, Barten said. Eventually, officers captured Rosales in the shopping center along Sharp Drive and Black Road. Because Rosales continued to struggle with the officers, one of them deployed a Taser, and it took at least four officers to make the arrest, Barten indicated. Monday's criminal complaint states that Rosales "knowingly carried on or about his person a firearm, a .9 mm Sig Sauer handgun ... and he had not been issued a currently valid Firearm Owner's Identification card." A Will County judge set bail at $5,000 for Rosales, who remained in custody Monday afternoon, unable to post the necessary 10 percent to regain his freedom. File Image via John Ferak/Patch
