PORTLAND, OR — More than 1,000 city workers will vote Tuesday night on the latest proposal from them If they reject it, there will be one more meeting on Wednesday and if an agreement is not reached there will be a strike. The strike will begin Thursday. All the workers are members of the District Council of Trade Unions and work in 17 of the city's bureaus. The workers authorized the strike in a vote last month. The city has offered a 5 percent raise, which the union says it is not enough, it doesn't take inflation and the cost of living into account. The two sides have been negotiating for months. While the city has not detailed a contingency plan in the event of a strike, they maintain that if there is one, it won't have much of an impact. Workers railed on Saturday in front of City Hall for the second straight week.
