Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh: Residents on Fieldspring Lane in Raleigh are sharing concerns regarding the City of Raleigh's plans to turn their road into a throughway. The plan would widen their road in order to connect Buck Jones Road and Jones Franklin Road, taking about 12 feet from each home's front yard. Neighbors are concerned for the safety implications and plan to speak out regarding the potential change at tonight's city council meeting. (WRAL)Two major accidents had fatal consequences on Sunday night. Two cars were traveling in the same direction near Brier Creek Parkway when they collided, causing a vehicle to veer off the road and hit a tree. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was trapped in the vehicle and died a short time later. (CBS17, WRAL)One person called for the aid of AAA after running out of gas on I-540. While the driver and AAA worker were adding gas, a passing car hit the two. The driver died on scene, and the AAA worker was taken to a hospital for treatment. It is unclear if the driver who hit the pair remained on the scene. (CBS17)U.S. Marshals in coordination with Raleigh Police have taken an individual into custody who they believe to have been driving the van that hit and killed Erin Simanskis last month. The suspect's name has not been released, but they were found in Georgia and are awaiting an extradition hearing. (WRAL)The community group, 100 Black Men of Triangle East spent its Saturday hosting its annual donation drive at New Bern House. The members collected nonperishable food, toiletries, and clothing to benefit the New Bern House and help families in need. The 100 Black Men of Triangle East organization began in 1998 and is accepting new mentees and volunteers. (Spectrum News 1)Applications for the Volunteer Raleigh Enrichment Fund opened Monday. The city of Raleigh is giving organizations with a 501(c)(3) status an opportunity to apply for one of five $1,000 awards through the fund for projects that enhance and strengthen volunteer services. The deadline to apply is March 1.
