ROYAL OAK, MI — A Mount Clemens man was arrested Tuesday for stealing over $300 worth of groceries from a Royal Oak Kroger, Royal Oak Police said. Benjamin Trombley, 40, was charged with retail fraud in the second offense, which is a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison and/or $10,000 fine. The crime was enhanced due to prior his convictions, police said. Trombley's bond was set at $20,000, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m. before Judge Wittenberg in the 44th District Court. Officers said they were driving on Twelve Mile Road near Campbell Road in Royal Oak at 4:00 p.m. when they found Trombley with a grocery cart full of groceries. Police contacted Kroger management, and the supermarket confirmed the Trombley stole over $300 of groceries from the store, police said. Officers also discovered Trombley had a felony warrant from the Michigan Department of Corrections for being a parole absconder. Trombley has prior convictions for home invasion in the first degree degree, home invasion in the second degree, larceny in a building, retail fraud and possession of controlled substances.
