TUCSON, AZ — A wrong-way driver heading east in the westbound lanes of the I-10 freeway in Marana was stopped by the joint efforts of two Arizona law enforcement agencies Thursday night.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety told Patch it received calls of a car going the wrong way around 10:30 p.m. When troopers arrived, they found that Marana Police Department cars were already in the area attempting to stop the wrong-way driver.
"The wrong-way vehicle was able to be stopped with officers and troopers from both agencies," said Arizona DPS spokesperson Bart Graves. "Marana PD took disposition of the investigation due to their level of involvement."
According to local outlet KGUN, Marana police said there was a short chase before the car was eventually stopped.
39-year-old Weston East was arrested and charged with Aggravated DUI, unlawful flight from law enforcement and felony endangerment. No one was hurt during the incident but a Marana police car and a DPS car both sustained minor damage.
