Description
I am an experienced bassist looking to find a good songwriting and rhythm section partner with the goal of putting together a recording and performing original rock project. I will consider bands looking for a bassist too, if your goals are similar to mine. I am 54 years old and have played bass for 39 years in 18 different bands - 100s of gigs in many genres including jazz, blues, Americana, and rock. Many of these bands have been original music projects and that is my love and focus. Really not interested in playing covers, I am looking to write, record, and perform original music with like-minded people. If it's creativity and collaboration that you are after- keep on reading. I have a small studio with all the needed gear, including a nice Roland e-kit, so jamming to determine if we are a good musical fit is super easy. As all drummers know- the bass and drums having a good synergy is key to a good band. I also have a nice Apogee/Logic Pro X recording rig with many mics/amps/accessories. We can get a good recording right here. I have written about two dozen new song ideas over the past few months, so we'll have a good starting point. As far as genre, this will be rooted in driving rock rhythms, but with a lot of melody and R&B/Jazz influences. Some of the bands I am inspired by are: Joy Division, Husker Du, R.E.M., Echo & the Bunnymen, The Smiths, Morphine, STP, and newer bands like The War on Drugs and Tame Impala (I like a lot of music in a lot of genres). My initial idea is to create a band that's a cross between Morphine and Royal Blood (maybe no traditional guitar at all - maybe horns). I have other interested musicians that want to get involved once the project is up and running. The ideal drummer will be experienced with a number of genres, and have a fair amount of experience overall- especially with original music. Not too concerned about age, but 35+ is probably the best fit (I am 54- Gen X). I don't smoke. Very light drinker. Full-time employed. The focus will be on the music. I do want to play out occasionally, but 4 hour bar gigs hold no appeal to me anymore. Emphasis will be on shorter sets like festivals, special events, multi-band showcases, etc. No more than a 1-2 times a month at most. Let's create something awesome! I am located near Viroqua. Willing to share travel if you have your own studio/rehearsal space. Please be vaccinated for Covid-19 (I am vaxxed and boosted).
