Singer Songwriter Looking For Likeminded Folk

Meets

Silver Spring MD

Description

The band that I was in until the new year has called it quits. I have the songs and want to keep going. I play guitar ok and "sing" in a yelp to growly yell. Style is a bit of Garagey rock, Indie, 80/90s Alt. with a bit of punk verve. I like and try to write conventionally poppy songs delivered with a little bit of (hopefully charming) messiness. I consider the band that I'm a part of to be a democracy of ideas and want to play with folks who want to share the work of being in a band and are willing to throw ideas out and at each other and are cool with other doing that in kind. That includes sharing in the work of being online as well as in person. All things which can be discussed. I'm not the best melodicist, so if you think I should sing something differently or have ideas for alternate lyrics, I'm cool with that or at least the discussion. I also want to work with folks that aren't afraid to put down their instrument and play a tambourine, bells or something else for a few bars. Maybe you can't sing, but a shout is just as good when it's needed. I hope any of this sounds interesting and if you're interested, please reach out. I have one prospective bandmate who can pinch hit on any of the basics so let me know what you play or would be willing to play. Right now, it's looking like practice will be in Rockville, unless you have a space or would like to use a community space. I have recordings to sample, please reach out and I can send you a link or two. Thanks for reading. Influences include Velvet Underground/Lou Reed, Big Star, Elvis Costello, The Clash, Tom Waits, The Replacements, Nirvana, Wilco, Dead Milkmen, Modest Mouse and The Violent Femmes. Newer bands would be like Foxygen, Wavves, Cymbals Eat Guitars... newer bands that feel influenced by those older bands. All of that is a bit subjective though.
