Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Shut Down Due To Suspicious Package

TUCSON, AZ — Davis-Monthan Air Force Base closed its security checkpoint Thursday morning after a suspicious package was detected on a truck that made its way through the gates. A spokesperson for Davis-Monthan, near Tucson, told Patch that a suspicious package was found at 7:30 a.m. at the base's Swan Gate checkpoint and safety precautions were immediately enacted. "Safety procedures were enacted, and the Tucson Police Department and the 355th Civil Engineer Squadron's Explosive Ordnance Disposal flight were notified," Lt. Dorothy Sherwood, spokesperson for the base, said. "Both are currently on scene." UPDATE The Swan gate is closed until further notice.— Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (@DMAFB) October 15, 2020 Officer Frank Magos, spokesperson for the Tucson Police Department, said officers were on the scene to help with traffic control. He said he was not aware of the outcome of anything that happened on base. UPDATE As of 10 AM, the Craycroft and Swan gates are now operating at normal hours for inbound and outbound traffic.
