TUCSON, AZ — A Tucson police officer shot a man holding a machete near Flowing Wells High School Tuesday morning, a department spokesperson said. Officers responding to a critical incident in the area of N Flowing Wells and W Roger Rd. Details are limited at this time.— Sergeant Richard Gradillas (@SgtGradillas) November 3, 2020 Officer Frank Magos, spokesperson for the Tucson Police Department, confirmed to Patch that a man armed with a machete had prompted multiple 911 calls from the community, including one from a Circle K on Flowing Wells Road. The reports said that the man was approaching people in an "aggressive, threatening manner," Magos said. Two officers from the department's west side found the man and attempted to speak with him. He ran, and the officers chases him. One officer fired his gun and shot the suspect before immediately offering aid until members of the Tucson Fire Department arrived. The officer's identity was not made available. According to Magos, the man was taken to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and is currently in surgery. His family has not yet been notified. Flowing Wells High School did go into lockdown when the shooting occurred but that has since lifted. It did not take place on school property and no one there was affected. The area where the shooting occurred is still an active crime scene, Magos said. The road between Prince and Roger is closed while the investigation is underway.
