GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Suwanee police took out warrants Friday for two teenagers they believe hit and killed a pedestrian with their van while fleeing a Walmart.
Keytavuis Arice Lowam, 18, and Jafar Hunter Jr., 15, both of Decatur, are charged with murder and felony shoplifting, according to Lt. Robert Thompson of the Suwanee Police Department as reported by The Gwinnett Daily Post.
Investigators believe Lowam and Hunter were in the U-Haul van that killed Christian Gutierrez of Sugar Hill as the two tried to escape loss-prevention officers Nov. 7 at the Walmart on Lawrenceville Suwanee Road. The van dragged Gutierrez, a father of two, about the length of a football field onto Satellite Boulevard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thompson said the teenagers are also believed to be "water boys" that work Memorial Drive and Columbia Drive in Decatur.
Gutierrez was buried Friday in Buford, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A GoFundMe page to fund his funeral had raised more than $27,000 as of Friday evening.
Anyone who can help locate the suspects can call the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Fugitive Tip Line at 770-619-7838.
