TEMPE, AZ — The city of Tempe is launching its first grant program to offer aid to small businesses continuing to struggle due to the coronavirus pandemic. Applications for $1.1 million in financial aid through the Tempe Small Business Grant Program will open Oct. 12 for the city's small businesses impacted by the virus, according to a news release the city. It is a joint endeavor between the city of Tempe and the Arizona Community Foundation. Businesses may be awarded up to $10,000 in funding, based on the number of full-time staff employed. Applications will close Oct. 30. In order to be considered eligible, you must be a private, for-profit business "with a physical commercial establishment within the city of Tempe" and commit to staying within Tempe city limits through April 2021. Businesses operating out of a home or mobile unit are not eligible at this time. Businesses must employ under 100 staffers and earn less than $5 million in gross annual income. The application will require several Internal Revenue Service Forms and documentation verifying the address of each business.
