Tempe High School Dedicates New Football Field

TEMPE, AZ — One of the state's oldest high schools has a new synthetic football field. Tempe High School will dedicate the new field during Friday's game against Phoenix's Arcadia High School. Kick-off started at 7 p.m. "Tempe High is the flagship school of our district," Kevin Mendivil, superintendent for the district, said in a statement. "This new field is vital for both our Buffalo community and the surrounding area. For a school with 112 years of history and a deep base of support in the area, this kind of project is an absolute game-changer." The field was funded in part by the Arizona Cardinals, via the NFL Foundation and LISC Phoenix, a national organization focusing on the community. Construction began in May after the governing board unanimously approved new stadium fields for both Tempe High and Desert Vista High School. Sun Valley Builders, Inc. was the construction company for the project, and Shaw Sports Turf installed the new turf system. Both companies worked with Lloyd Consulting Group, the principal engineers on the project. The synthetic grass will save the school almost 2.8 million gallons of water each year.
