CUMMING, GA — Forsyth County on Thursday broke ground on a new dog par knear the County Animal Shelter at 4065 County Way in north Forsyth. It's expected to be completed this fall. In a release, the county said the dog park is to be outfitted with synthetic turf, doggy drinking fountains, a climbing boulder, woods, a dog walk ramp and tunnel, shaded areas, benches and public family-style restrooms. The park was funded by donations along with funds from the Parks & Recreation Capital Funds, SPLOST VIII funds and penny sales tax, according to the release. During a ground breaking ceremony Thursday, District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills said the park reaffirms the county's commitment to providing "quality amenities for everyone to enjoy." "I look forward to seeing the special bonds this park will help create between dogs and their owners over the years to come, as well as new bonds that may be established because of the park's close proximity to the animal shelter," Jones Mills said. A gallery of photos taken from the ground breaking ceremony can be seen here. Also on Thursday, the Forsyth County Animal Shelter announced it is waiving the standard $85 pet adoption fee through September 8.
