The Variants based out of Lower East Side/Bushwick/Ridgewood are looking for a bassist 18-25 y/o with Blues, Rock n' Roll, Funk and perhaps some Jazz chops! We're a blues based rock n roll group that formed in 2021. We've played many gigs all over town and have gigs in Manhattan, Brooklyn and even Staten Island coming up. Can send demos if interested. We've just wrapped recording on our debut album of originals to be released in May with a record release show at Mercury Lounge! Bands we're into are Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Reed, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, James Brown, P-Funk, Hank Williams Sr, Waylon Jennings, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, Stax Records, Gospel stuff. Basically American Blues, Rhythm & Blues, Jazz, Boogie, Rock n' Roll, Reggae and Latin rhythms of the 1920s-1970s is the basis of our sound and take influence from ANYTHING. We love being creative with these languages of the 20th Century and finding new ways too fresh it up for the 2020s. We're not interested in being a nostalgic act. We wanna make tomorrows music with yesterdays ingredients if that makes sense. We're artsy folks who dress funky and have a wide variety of interests personally and it translates to the group. If ya got chops and wanna be in a dope Rock n' Roll band that's not hacky and doing the cliche LES Punk revival shit and has the Blues then reach out to the email or the phone number listed. Not a lot of hipster bands in the scene that utilize these music forms unfortunately. Except Daddy Long Legs. If you have some demo videos to send that would be great.
