Yonkers Man Indicted In Death Of Homeless Woman In Park

SCARSDALE, NY — A Yonkers man who was accused of running over a homeless woman was indicted by a grand jury. According to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, Pilar Dominguez-Leon, 44, of Yonkers, was arraigned Wednesday on the following charges: Aggravated vehicular homicide, a felonyFirst-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felonyTwo counts of second-degree vehicular, feloniesCriminally negligent homicide, a felonyLeaving the scene of an incident without reporting: personal injury, a felonyTwo counts of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanorAfter being arraigned, Dominguez-Leon was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to return to court Nov. 21. Prosecutors said, on Sunday, March 8, after finishing a shift as a busboy in a Scarsdale restaurant, Dominguez-Leon when out drinking. A couple of hours later, on March 9, he started to drive two co-workers home to Yonkers. He dropped one off and was on his way to drop off the other when he lost control of his car on New Main Street, police said. Dominguez-Leon crossed the intersection of New Main and Nepperhan Avenue, through a red light, according to prosecutors. He narrowly missed a car and drove off the road into Chicken Island Day Lighting Park. The car went down the stairs into the park, flipped over several times and came to rest on its roof. The car struck a homeless woman, Julianna Scott, 23, on the stairs, police said. She was later pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. Dominguez-Leon and his passenger fled from the overturned car. Yonkers police determined the car was registered to Dominguez-Leon. He was located and taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where authorities said his blood alcohol content was found to be above the legal limit. Like Hudson Valley Patches' Facebook Pages.
