Camper Tests Positive For Coronavirus In Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — Forsyth County officials said they learned Tuesday that a camper in one of the summer camps at Sawnee Mountain Preserve has tested positive for the coronavirus. The camper was asymptomatic and was being tested as a prerequisite for a camp they were planning to attend next week. All involved campers and staff have been notified. "We are working with public health regarding any contact tracing, additional testing and self-quarantine that may need to take place," the county said in a post Tuesday. "The facility was disinfected by the Forsyth County Fire Department using AeroClave, a hospital-grade system that decontaminates rooms quickly. We are following state and county guidelines and will continue to monitor this situation." Programs, camps, fitness classes and indoor facility rentals were suspended in Forsyth County through June 14. Gov. Brian Kemp said earlier this month that campers and workers may not attend an overnight summer camp unless they have received a negative COVID-19 test within 12 days prior to starting camp. Overnight summer camps were permitted in Georgia beginning May 31, if the organizations met 33 specific criteria for reopening, in addition to the requirements for operating a non-critical infrastructure business.
