Scottsdale Bar Brawl Leads To 1 Arrest, 1 ICU Stay

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A man was arrested in connection with a Scottsdale bar brawl Sunday night, police said. The Scottsdale Police Department was called to the Roadrunner Lounge on Hayden and Thomas Roads around 6:30 p.m. because of a fight on the patio, according to court records the Arizona Republic obtained. A 911 caller told dispatchers that a man was unconscious and bleeding from the head. Another man, since identified as 47-year-old Craig Roemer, left the scene in a maroon Chrysler car. Officers arrived at the Roadrunner Lounge and the injured man was taken to the hospital in "possibly life-threatening condition." The man was later found to have a brain bleed and was in the ICU as of Tuesday afternoon. After interviewing other customers at the bar and watching security footage, detectives said they learned that Roemer attacked the man for flirting with his girlfriend. A witness was able to identify the license plate of the car that fled as Roemer's, according to police. They later tracked him to a halfway house in Mesa through his parole officer. A spokesperson for the Scottsdale Police Department told Patch that the man in the intensive care unit is expected to recover. "Roemer was arrested and charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder after attacking his victim inside the bar," Sgt. Brian Reynolds said. "The victim is expected to make a full recovery." According to court records, Roemer admitted he had been at the bar and hit the victim but was surprised at the extent of the injuries. Scottsdale police confirmed that Roemer has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with serious physical injury, and aggravated assault with the victim unable to resist.
