Space Coast - Heroes On the Water - Ramp Road Park, Cocoa Beach, FL Happy to serve our Veterans and First Responders (HEROES) in the Brevard County and surrounding areas. Targeted fish are snooks, trout, reds, snapper, and multiple other smaller panfish. Plenty of Dolphins and Manatees to see in the area. Launch location will be in the canal. Parking is plentiful. The distance is near the parking lot. There is a small area designated for trailers. Expect to see our Heroes On the Water banners and flag. This is a public park and launch, so please be considerate. HOW TO GET THERE: Launch Location: Ramp Road Park, 401 Ramp Road, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931 The launch area is the back part of the park to the right. From the Orlando area, travel east on FL-528 east towards Cocoa Beach. From I95 take exit 205 and keep left at the fork, follow signs for FL-528 E/Canaveral/Cape-Port-A.F.S and merge onto FL-528 E to A1A and travel for 12.3 miles. Once you enter Canaveral city limits you will travel for 7.9 miles. Turn right on S 5th Street, then left on Brevard Ave, finally onto Ramp Road. From the south, travel on I95 North to Exit 188 Patrick SFB/Satellite Beach. Turn right onto FL-404 and travel east towards Patrick SFB/Satellite Beach for 7.2 miles. At A1A turn left and travel north for 6.6 miles. Turn left onto S 6th Street, then right on S Brevard Ave, finally left onto Ramp Road. So please monitor the 6-foot rules and minimize the opportunity to be at risk. Events are subject to change based on things out of the Leadership Teams control. HEROES, guests, and volunteers are NOT allowed to be on/in a kayak(s) during the event without a designated HOW guide and the required safety equipment. You MUST wear your personal floatation device (PFD) the entire time while you are on/in the kayak. Food and drinks will be provided; however, you are welcome to bring your own snack/food/drinks if you have special needs/preferences. Bring a lawn chair or something to sit on since many of our locations are primitive and may not have a place to sit. As a precaution, we suggest you bring a dry set of clothing, since this is water related event, and we never know about the weather & tides. Since we can never tell the weather or the tides, the environment could change our event. Please be on time. Who are our HEROES? Military: Veterans “Retired and Separated”, Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard; First Responders “law enforcement, fire fighters, and medical services”, and Their Families. HOW's mission is to help Veterans, active duty military and first responders to relax, rehabilitate, and reintegrate into society through kayak fishing and the outdoors. Over the past several years of taking our HEROES out kayak fishing, we have learned first-hand the "triple therapy" of kayak fishing: Physical therapy with paddling and fishing. Occupational therapy in learning new skills and occupying the mind. Mental therapy in relaxation and recognizing the freedom of being on the water.
