YONKERS, NY — Police say they are investigating a homicide at Duo Bar on Yonkers Avenue. Investigators said the shooting happened at Duo Tapas Bar and Lounge just after 2 a.m. Sunday. A dispute at the bar escalated to violence when a shooter fired several shots into the vestibule of the building, striking two employees. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital. One has died. Police said this morning that a person of interest has been identified and is in custody. The identity of the suspect has not yet been release. Police are also withholding the identities of the two gunshot victims. Yonkers Avenue remained closed in both directions throughout much of the morning on Sunday at the crime scene. Yonkers City Councilmember John Rubbo blamed the tragedy on an epidemic of illegal guns. In a statement released Sunday morning, he demanded that the Duo Tapas Bar be shuttered permanently. "This is a terrible, targeted attack that should have never happened," Rubbo said in part. "We need to be tough on crime. I remain committed to advocating to my Council colleagues and the NYS legislature to ensure our YPD has all the resources they need to combat illegal guns coming into our city. We need to get illegal guns off the streets. I am asking the Mayor and Police Commissioner to shut this bar down indefinitely."
