SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Some Scottsdale residents have been selected to participate in a survey about the community, city programs and services. The bi-annual National Community Survey conducted by the National Research Center at Polco will ask 1,700 randomly selected households to weigh in and their feedback will help the city prioritize its initiatives, services and programs. An online version of the survey will be available to all Scottsdale residents in January. "The National Community Survey allows residents to rate their overall quality of life and provide specific feedback about municipal services, public safety, customer service and their level of participation in community events and activities," the city said in a news release. The survey is designed specifically for local governments, so the city of Scottsdale will be able to compare its responses with those from cities across the U.S. It also allows the city to compare this year's results with surveys from years past to get a better understanding of the quality of their services. The city has archives of survey responses dating back to 1986. In 2018, approximately 9 out of 10 households surveyed positively rated the overall image or reputation of Scottsdale and would recommend others live in the city. The economy was also identified as a priority for the community in that year's responses. About 9 in 10 community members gave high marks to recreation programs or classes and recreation centers or facilities. About 1,600 households were sent surveys that year, with only 21 percent responding. Approximately one in 10 Scottsdale households were chosen at random in 2020 to ensure that the community is well-represented. After they have the opportunity to provide feedback, the whole community will get a chance to weigh in in January. The survey won't yield any results until February of 2021.
