Passenger Seriously Hurt When Driver Hits Gas Instead Of Brake

BAY SHORE, NY — A 53-year-old woman was seriously injured when the 82-year-old driver of the car she was riding in crashed into a Long Island bank building Sunday afternoon, police said. According to Suffolk police, Simone Sabine was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry in the parking lot of the Bank of America at 846 Eastbound Sunrise Service Road in Bay Shore when she hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the car to strike the bank building at 1:43 p.m. A passenger in the vehicle, Monika Donnely, of Bay Shore, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries, police said. Sabine, of Bay Shore, was also taken to South Shore University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
