Press release from the City of San Antonio: Thursday, February 3, 2022 CONTACT: Emily Collins [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 3, 2022) — This morning, the City Council discussed the distribution of funds received from the Federal Government by the American Rescue Plan Act and remaining funds from the Recovery and Resiliency Plan. The City of San Antonio's initial proposal set aside funding for Arts, Digital Literacy, Mental Health, Small Business/Nonprofit, Seniors, Youth. Councilwoman Sandoval successfully pushed for the City to create a new category for Social Service Nonprofits. She released the following statements: "As initially designed, the framework risked leaving out critical social services that our community needs right now, such as those offered by the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, Academia América, and the American Organization for Immigrants." "Today, I proposed an amendment to set aside $4 million for social service nonprofits. I am grateful to my colleagues for supporting this amendment. This was a necessary addition as these organizations would not receive the same consideration otherwise." Following the amendment and subsequent discussion, City Council approved the ARPA framework. More information on the City's ARPA funds can be found here. More information on how social service nonprofits can request recovery funds is forthcoming.
