CUMMING, GA – Forsyth County has added two electric cars to its fleet of vehicles in an effort to reduce emissions as well as county fuel and maintenance costs, county officials recently announced.
County officials said that two zero-emission Nissan Leaf electric cars will be used by county employees and that two dual-port charging stations will be added to the parking deck of the county administration building, which is located at 215 Mason St. Two of the ports at the charging station will be reserved for county use only while the other two will be available to local residents, officials said.
In a news release announcing the addition of the electric cars, fleet services director Avery Gravitt said that the county will see a "vast" cost savings as opposed to adding more traditional vehicles.
"The Nissan Leaf has an operating cost that is 80% less than the average gas vehicle, Gravitt said in a news release. "This is equal to purchasing gas at 60 cents per gallon."
