FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — Two family members died Saturday when the boat they were sleeping on filled with carbon monoxide. The victims have been identified as Scott Landeck, 22, and Brian Landeck, 31, both of Cumming. At 11:23 a.m. on Saturday, Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies responded to Mary Alice Park regarding two deceased males on a boat. Upon arrival, deputies learned that three family members went out on their boat Friday evening to spend the night on the boat at an island on Lake Lanier. When other family members arrived Saturday, the two men were unresponsive. Family members towed the boat to Mary Alice Park. A third male on the boat was disoriented, and was taken to a local hospital. He is being treated for carbon monoxide exposure. A generator was located on the boat. Though it was in an area that was not enclosed, the positioning of the generator did not allow the exhaust to exit the boat, deputies said. Instead, it filled the cabin where the men were sleeping. The Sheriff's Office reminds the public that when using a generator, ensure its positioning allows for the exhaust to dissipate safely away from any occupants. Carbon monoxide is odorless and tasteless. An investigation is ongoing, and foul play is not suspected.
