Description
On Christmas Eve, our dear friend Tom passed away quietly in his sleep. He had returned from a jam session, his favorite pastime, lay down for a rest, and joined that Heavenly Jam Band in the Sky. As Kenny Rogers sang in 'The Gambler,' "The best you can hope for is to die in your sleep." I should be so lucky.
A longtime drummer in the Dallas music scene, and in his later years, having taken up guitar, a member of many jam groups and bands, Tom will be sorely missed. He co-founded the well known "Gin Jam" some 15 years ago in Deep Ellum in the Continental Gin Building, and many Dallas players and beginners owe their early musical training and skills acquisition to him. He was so kind, patient, helpful, and hard working that anyone who played with him thanked him for his contributions and realized what a great guy he was. He helped so many folks in so many different ways that he touched lives the way that only a very special person can.
Tom Belcher was my best musical friend, learned all my songs, and sang backup and played guitar for me in my band. He was a faithful husband, dedicated musician, and loyal friend. His humility is noteworthy, his generosity unquestionable, and his work ethic well known. We love Tom Belcher, he is a shining example to everyone. He never had anything negative to say about anyone. A Veteran of The United States Army, having served in Vietnam, Tom was a Real Man. He was the hardest working musician I ever knew.
Tom is survived by his wife Betty, three brothers and a sister. Tom Belcher will live on in memory as a Legend in the Dallas music scene, and I will never forget him. God bless you, Tom, you are a Saint. Rest in Peace my friend, together with God and Our Lord Jesus Christ, Our Lady The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, The Holy Spirit, The Angels and All The Heavenly Host, Forever and Ever. I'll see you again soon, no doubt, and we will jam again just like we used to, in that Heavenly Jam Band in the Sky.
