Rep. Debbie Lesko To Quarantine After Coronavirus Exposure

PHOENIX — As the coronavirus continues to rage across Arizona and the U.S., another member of Congress has been impacted. Rep. Debbie Lesko, R-Peoria, announced in a statement Monday that she will undergo a 14-day quarantine after she spent time with someone who later tested positive for the coronavirus. "After consulting with the Attending Physician of the United States Congress, and out of an abundance of caution, I will be undergoing a 14-day quarantine," she said. Lesko said she is not experiencing any symptoms and that she will get tested for the virus on the fifth day of her voluntary quarantine. Her doctor said he has no reason to believe she has it, according to the statement. It is unclear who potentially exposed her to the virus. While Lesko does not have the virus at this time, Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Tucson, did. Grijalva tested positive for the coronavirus in August. Several members of the state legislature have also contracted it, including Rep. Lorenzo Sierra, who spent several days on a ventilator in the ICU before making a full recovery. Reps. Paul Gosar and David Schweikert have also self-quarantined due to possible exposure since the start of the pandemic. According to a tally by GovTrack, approximately 77 members of Congress across the country have either contracted the virus, quarantined or were exposed to it. Lesko will work from her Peoria home during her self-quarantine.
