CARTERSVILLE, GEORGIA — Shaw Industries announced Wednesday afternoon that it will temporarily close its U.S. manufacturing plants on a staggered schedule to weather the "disruption of business" caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The closures start on April 6. No specific schedule was announced for Shaw's five Bartow County plants, which employ about 2,500 people. A news release from the company said it will "support its associates during this time by filing for their unemployment benefits." Sales, distribution, administration and some manufacturing operations will continue during the shutdown. Shaw says it "will ramp back up over time based on market demand, with some operations starting back up as soon as April 13." Again, no specific schedule was announced for reopening Shaw's Bartow facilities. Patch.com will update this story as more information becomes available.
