CARTERSVILLE, GA – AMC Theaters announced this week that it likely will not open after closing locations across the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The closures would include its location in Cartersville, the AMC Classic Cartersville 12, which is located at 1129 N. Tennessee St.
AMC officials on Wednesday announced they have "substantial doubt" that the largest movie theater chain in the country will rebound from losses sustained because of the pandemic. According to CNN, AMC – which shuttered its theaters earlier this year – is expected to lose between $1.2 million and $2.41 million in the first quarter of 2020.
"We are generating effectively no money," the company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.
There are 18 AMC locations throughout the Metro Atlanta area.
All AMC locations are closed through June but company officials indicated this week it has the money to reopen. However, if concerns over the pandemic would keep theaters from reopening at the end of the month, officials expressed doubt it could continue to operate the 11,000 theaters nationwide the company operates.
