CARTERSVILLE, GA — An Oregon flooring company is investing more than $35 million to expand into Bartow County — and it's bringing 240 jobs with it.
Gov. Brian Kemp's office announced Friday that Wellmade Flooring plans to build a new 328,000 square-foot on Busch Drive in Cartersville. Construction is expected to begin "very soon," according to Melinda Lemmon, executive director of Cartersville-Bartow County Department of Economic Development.
"We're very pleased with today's announcement," Lemmon said. "It's a good vote of confidence in this economy."
Gov. Brian Kemp's office tied the announcement to the already established flooring industry in northwest Georgia along Interstate 75.
"I look forward to seeing the opportunities this new facility creates for hardworking Georgians in Bartow County," Kemp said in a statement.
Wellmade will be hiring for positions at a variety of skill levels, from management and supervision to engineering, machining operation, and production. Lemmon said she thinks hiring probably will start a few months before the plant is completed, possibly by the end of the year.
Wellmade specializes in the design, production, and distribution of hard surface flooring collections. Lemmon said this is Wellmade's first plant in Georgia.
