VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — The coronavirus pandemic has affected the Birmingham metro area, as it has all over the world. Among the many uncertainties involving the virus is where and how to get tested for it. A Birmingham firm is offering drive-thru testing at its two Birmingham area locations, with results available within four hours. Assurance has created a drive-through patient sample collection service at Assurance Health Building at 2868 Acton Road in Vestavia, and 727 Memorial Drive in Bessemer. As of now, Assurance has the capacity to run upward of 10,000 patient samples per week, with room for increased volume as needed, according to a release by the company. "I'm proud of the tireless effort our lab put into expediting the delivery of the COVID-19 testing. It was evident that our team was on a mission to do our part," said Mary Beth Minyard, director of microbiology at Assurance. "I'm sure physicians across the state will be relieved there is now an Alabama-based commercial lab that can offer this rapid testing for their patients. No one wants this spreading any quicker than it already has." The company said health care providers can order directly through the website, by email or by phone. For patients without a physician order, a provider will be available at both locations to assess individuals and determine testing needs.
