Seven Of 16 Bartow Transit Employees Test Positive For COVID-19

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Bartow County's buses will stay stationary for at least another week after nearly half of the department's employees tested positive for COVID-19. Positive diagnoses for three employees — including one hospitalization — had already stopped buses in their tracks through this Friday. Transit director Weldon Dudley told Patch last week that he would reevaluation the situation at the end of this week. When three more employees tested positive for COVID-19, Dudley decided not to wait until the end of the week. On Tuesday, Bartow County issued a press release notifying the public that the transit department would remain closed until at least Friday, July 24. Seven of the department's 16 employees so far have tested positive for COVID-19, with others still waiting for results. One employee is hospitalized, while the others show no symptoms. Weldon told Patch last week that he had decided to shut down Bartow County's buses because many riders have health conditions that make them vulnerable to COVID-19.
