Bartow School Employees To Receive Coronavirus Bonus Pay

CARTERSVILLE, GA — All employees of the Bartow County School System will receive a $125 bonus Wednesday for what Superintendent Dr. Phillip Page calls a "job well done" in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. The one-time bonus was announced Tuesday in a news release and a letter to Bartow County district employees. "As many school systems hesitate to return to in- person instruction or limit the number of days for in-person and distance learning instruction, you have provided the leadership and collaboration necessary for our students to attend classes five days a week in order to ensure the best opportunity to show proficiency on our essential standards," Page wrote. "No one has done it better than you, and no one has been more valuable to a community than you." According to the news release, all 20 Bartow County schools kept "more than 99 percent of its students and staff healthy" through the first five weeks of school. The system will also remain committed to "budget priorities that include an additional $750 one-time pay supplement to all employees in December and no reduction in staff or allotments this current fiscal year," according to the news release. Bartow County has done relatively well handling the spread of the coronavirus. As of Monday, Bartow ranked 24th among 159 counties with 2,685 positive tests for COVID-19 and 77 deaths from it. This is a slight improvement from June, when Bartow ranked 18th among Georgia counties. Its case rate has consistently ranked in the middle of the pack.
