CARTERSVILLE, GA — Students and community alike are mourning the death of a popular Bartow County middle-school teacher who was killed Thursday morning in a car accident.
Ginger Thompson, who taught at Cass Middle School for 20 years, died when her car struck a concrete mixer truck that turned in front of her on Georgia Highway 20 between Adairsville and Folsom. According to the Georgia State Patrol as reported by Atlanta news station WXIA-TV, charges are pending in the crash.
A statement from the Bartow County School System said that Thompson loved her Georgia Bulldogs, but she loved her "Cass kids" even more.
"She was fiercely loyal to her school and students," says Cass principal Kristy Arnold. She wanted to see them be successful. Cass Middle School won't be the same without her."
In addition to teaching business and computer science, Thompson sponsored the 4-H Club and held "various other titles throughout the years," according to the school-system statement.
"Mrs. Thompson was loved by all," adds Connections Team Leader Sydney Hughes. "She never had a negative thing to say about anyone and loved Cass Middle. If she wasn't wearing blue and gold, she was wearing red and black for Georgia, her favorite college team. We will miss her!"
As of Friday, funeral or memorial services had not been announced.
