BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority has restructured its leadership and hired a new chief operating officer, after years of issues surrounding its leadership and operations. A Birmingham Business Journal report said the BJCTA has hired Harold Young as its new COO.
Young is the former superintendent of bus operations with Broward Country Transit in Florida, according to the BBJ report.
The change comes after a series of leadership changes and controversy surrounding the organization. Mayor Randall Woodfin in 2018 threatened to pull municipal funding from the BJCTA unless the organization could improve its leadership and bookkeeping issues.
