Floyd County Fires Elections Chief Over Uncounted Ballots

ROME, GA — Floyd County fired chief elections clerk Robert Brady Thursday after more than 2,500 uncounted ballots for the Nov. 3 general election were discovered in an audit. Citing two reprimands in the past six months, the Floyd County Board of Elections terminated Brady during a called meeting, according to The Rome News-Tribune. "Mr. Brady is a good guy who did a bad job of managing the election," Floyd County GOP Chair Luke Martin told the Rome newspaper. "I don't think he's the only one at fault, but I appreciate the board taking a step in the right direction." After a closed-door meeting lasting more than an hour, the board motioned that Brady be reprimanded "on the basis of repeated failure to meet performance objectives," according to the published reports. Brady was in COVID-19 quarantine and not present at the meeting. Brady was previously reprimanded by the elections board for "disrespectful and derogatory treatment of a Floyd County citizen" after a public argument in August with a community advocate seeking information on absentee ballots. After the uncounted ballots were found, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Monday called for Brady's resignation. Most of the newly found ballots went to President Donald Trump. However, they didn't change the election outcome in GOP-leaning Floyd County, which already had chosen Trump by a large margin over President-elect Joe Biden. A similar problem involving uncounted ballots was also reported in Fayette County south of Atlanta, another Republican-led county.
